Simone Biles, Texans’ Jonathan Owens got engaged on Valentine’s Day

Simone Biles and boyfriend Jonathan Owens had an eventful Valentine’s Day on Monday. The Houston Texans safety proposed to the gymnastics legend and she said yes. The couple, who have been dating for about 18 months, announced the engagement on social media Tuesday morning.

“THE EASIEST YES,” Biles posted on Instagram. “I can’t wait to spend forever & ever with you, you’re everything I dreamed of and more! let’s get married FIANCÉ.”

“Woke up this morning with a fiancée,” Owens posted. “Appreciate my dawg @don_julio314 for helping me set everything up, she really had no clue what was coming.”

Biles, who turns 25 years old in March, is considered one of the most dominant gymnasts of all-time and her combined 32 Olympic and World Championship medals ties her for the most in the sport’s history. Biles was born in Ohio, but moved to the Houston suburb of Spring to live with her grandparents when she was 3.

The 26-year-old Owens just completed his third season with the Texans, playing in seven games – including two starts – and finishing with 18 tackles and an interception.

Owens, who was undrafted out of Missouri Western, has been cut before the regular season four straight times, but each time he has ended up sticking around the league on the practice squad.

Owens spent the 2018 season on the Arizona Cardinals injured reserve, then was signed to the Texans’ practice squad after the Cardinals let him go in 2019. Owens played one game in the regular season for the Texans in 2019. In 2020, the Texans cut Owens on the final day of roster cutdowns, but signed him to the practice squad the next day. He ended up playing six regular season games for the Texans that year.
