Gossip Girl reboot trailer features return of original star – but fans are divided

Gossip Girl ran for six season from 2007 to 2012 and featured an iconic cast of stars, including Blake Lively, Leighton Meester, Penn Badgley, Ed Westwick and Chace Crawford.

Kristen Bell also notably gave her voice to the titular character, Gossip Girl, a blogger who shares scandalous details about the lives of Manhattan’s elite.

The follow-up show, set to air on July 8th, has been rebooted for HBO Max featuring a whole new bunch of characters and the first teaser trailer has just been released.

The teaser gives fans a look at the new bunch of wealthy teenagers who will be sitting pretty on the Met steps – and it also confirmed the return of one of the show’s original stars.

Bell is back as the voice of Gossip Girl and the minute-long clip hears her dishing out a few home truths, as we would expect.

She says: “You’ve gotten so comfortable, thinking you’re in control of your image, your actions, the narrative.

“But you forgot one thing: I can see you.

“And before I’m through, I’ll make sure you see you too.”

And of course, she had to add her catchphrase: “You know you love me. XOXO.”

Hearing the line once again gave us CHILLS and many fans felt the same way – though some didn’t seem too impressed with this first look.

The trailer has made its way onto TikTok where many people have shared their thoughts.

A user named @gabiwhiting shared the video, adding: “So the new Gossip Girl trailer is out. We love diversity. But something seems off.

“I kind of blame the stylist, this looks like they’re trying too hard to be glamorous and it just kind of looks trashy. Like Eleanor Waldorf would never.

“I’m trying not to pre-judge but they’ll never compare to Chuck and Blair, I said what I said.”

More than 270,00 people watched her video, with one replying: “You said what you said and I agree.”

“Blair Waldorf would never omg,” agreed a second.

A different user wrote: “Reboots usually never compare to the original, I don’t know if I can watch it.”

While a fourth proclaimed: “It looks like a Love Island season opener LOL.”

However, others thought it looked great and urged people to stop comparing the two shows.

“This looks so good,” posted someone else. “I’m excited for it. Everyone is hating before they’ve even watched it.”

A sixth added: “It’s not supposed to be the same, stop comparing the two shows so much. Just enjoy it, it looks good.”
