The movie "The Hobbit" is based on the book by J.R.R. The official title of the the book "The Hobbit" is "The Hobbit, or There and Back Again."

The book was published on September 21, 1937 to wide critical acclaim, being nominated for the Carnegie Medal and awarded a prize from the New York Herald Tribune.  The book has never been out of print.

Martin Freeman who stars as the movie's "Hobbit" Bilbo Baggins, stole the hearts of hard-core fans of another literary classic, "Sherlock Holmes."  Freeman currently plays a modern Dr. Watson in the BBC TV Series "Sherlock", the third season of which is rumored to be postponed until 2014 due to the Freeman being in "The Hobbit."
