Hi, I'm Alegra and I'm a 17 year old high school senior who has grown up going to the theatre as far back as I can remember. My first show at age 5 was Beauty and the Beast and now dozens of plays and musicals later, I'm thrilled to share my love of the theatre with Teen Kids News.
As an 8th grader, I entered a national essay contest sponsored by the League of American Theatres asking students what theatre means to them. I was selected to join the Kids Night On Broadway Advisory Board consisting of 30 students from around the country. We were responsible for coming up with ideas to make Broadway more appealing to young people. We were so successful, the group was asked to serve for two years.
Besides theatre, my passion is music and art. As a pianist I have composed several original songs and exhibited my artwork in numerous places. I'm rarely without a paintbrush or camera in my hand and I'm very eager to pursue film-making next year in college.
I've seen close to a hundred shows. My favorites include “Gypsy” with Patti LuPone, “Kinky Boots” the Tony winning musical currently on Broadway, “Les Miserables” which is returning to Broadway next year, “Born Yesterday” starring Nina Arianda and the Tennessee Williams classic “The Glass Menagerie” featuring Cherry Jones and personal favorite Zachary Quinto.
Working as the theatre reporter of Teen Kids News, I'm looking forward to a fun-packed and exciting year of talent and of plays both old and new.
