Americans are expected to spend over $2.6 billion on Halloween costumes this year, according to National Retail Federation. This includes costumes for adults, kids and pets! Interestingly, more money will be spent on adult costumes than on kids costumes ($1.22 billion vs. $1.04 billion.) And as for pets, $330 million will be spent to dress-up our furry friends.
The most popular theme for younger girls is Princesses followed by animals and for boys it's Super Heroes.
The most popular costumes in general are: Witches, Pirates,Vampires, Zombies.
Last year's most popular theme had to do with a certain "Angry Bird" but this year that has been replaced by an array of themes. The top five costumes this year are:
- from the TV show "Breaking Bad" (just had the show finale.)
- from the popular reality TV show "Duck Dynasty" (entering it's 4th season.)
- the little yellow Minions from the animated movie "Despicable Me" (sequel came out this summer.)
- the outfits worn by Miley Cyrus at the MTV Awards (no comment.)
- Fox costumes.
Yes, Fox costumes are exploding this year. The furry animal costumes are selling at record numbers -- and it's all thanks to that silly, catchy, viral music video "What Does the Fox Say." If you haven't seen it yet (it has over 145 million views) we've included it below.
